ANZ Economic Outlook Series: Japan - The New Wave

Co-hosted by ANZ Japan and ANZCCJ, ANZ’s Chief Economist, Richard Yetsenga will update global economic outlook, including Asia Pacific region’s prospects.

This luncheon will cover two sessions. At the first session, Ricard Yetsenga will give a keynote presentation of global and regional macro trends, by covering the key themes for Asia Pacific in 2018 such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CP TPP). The second session will discuss “Japan: The New Wave”, with a special guest panelist, Mr. Hajime Ueda, Senior Corporate Managing Director of the Nomura Research Institute (NRI). This session will take the macro themes outlined in the opening presentation, and use them as the context for exploring how regional trade and investment flows may play out in 2018 and beyond. There will be some specific focus on how Japanese companies are responding to these trends and themes.

This panel discussion will be moderated by Andrew Cornell, Managing Editor of bluenotes, ANZ, who is a multi-award winning journalist.

SPEAKER:
Richard Yetsenga
Chief Economist, ANZ

Richard Yetsenga is Chief Economist and Head of Research at ANZ. In this role, he leads the Bank's economic and markets research efforts, with a focus on Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

With more than 20 years of experience in Asian financial services, Richard joined ANZ in 2011 from HSBC in Hong Kong, where he was Managing Director and Global Head of Emerging Market FX Strategy. Prior to his seven years at HSBC, Richard held economics and markets strategy roles with Deutsche Bank and the Australian Government.

The ANZ Research team has been recognised with more than 30 top-three rankings in major industry surveys across Australia, New Zealand and Asia in the last five years, alongside numerous industry awards.

Hajime Ueda
Senior Corporate Managing Director, Nomura Research Institute (NRI) 

Mr. Hajime Ueda serves as Senior Corporate Managing Director of Nomura Research Institute, Ltd. (NRI) .

In last 2 years, Mr. Ueda led NRI's acquisitions of ASG Group Limited (Perth) and SMS technologies (Melbourne) and is serving as their board member.  Outside of Australia, he is also a member of the board at Brierley & Partners (Dallas), Cutter Associates (Boston), and Zhiming Software (Beijing).

Mr. Ueda holds a BA from Waseda and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. He is also a Certified Financial Analyst (AMIR) and a CPA certified in MT.

Andrew Cornell is the founding managing editor of BlueNotes, ANZ Banking Group’s forum for financial services and economic news, opinion and analysis.
