21 February 2017

On 21 February, we were joined by over 50 Japanese and other business representatives for the sixth instalment of our SME Support Program event series, at the contemporary Australian themed restaurant, Salt by Luke Mangan.

The SME Support Program is presented on a quarterly basis by the Australian and New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ANZCCJ), and hosted in partnership with the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) and JETRO. The program aims to connect small and medium sized Japanese businesses with little or no international experience with Australian and New Zealand executives, businesses and organisations with substantial experience, expertise and know-how in international business, trade and investment.

Speakers who presented at the event were:

  • Hideaki Yoshimura, Global Value Partners, CEO
  • Hitoshi Sato, Maruhachi Tent, CEO
  • Julia Ward, Australian Embassy Tokyo, Second Secretary

Mr Yoshimura was the first to present, giving us an insight into his experiences of entering the market in Australia and the opportunities and challenges he faced. Next, Mr Sato and his associates gave a fascinating presentation on their unique company, the benefits of long-term internship and market entry overseas. Finally, Ms Ward of the Australian Embassy in Tokyo spoke about the ‘New Colombo Plan’, an initiative by the Australian government to send its best and brightest students to undertake internships in the Indo-Pacific region, including Japan. The presentations were followed by a networking session for participants and advisors to mingle and discuss business opportunities in Australia and New Zealand from the Japanese perspective.

Participants reported that they were pleased to hear the “candid and insightful business experiences of the presenters and advisors.

Thank you to our guest speakers, business owners and entrepreneurs who attended this event and to our ANZCCJ Advisors who donated their time to this event.
