08 March 2017
Celebrated annually on March 8, International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity through highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by women worldwide, and the ability of every individual to combat these through bold action and meaningful support. The theme for 2017 is: #BeBoldForChange. For many, this means being bold against what is holding them back, and for others it may simply be standing up and challenging stereotypes. In doing so, #BeBoldForChange is able to embrace a future which will be inclusive to all people.
The ANZCCJ will #BeBoldForChange through challenging bias and inequality by ensuring that it challenges conventional stereotypes and highlights when women are excluded. Through querying all male speaking panels, ANZCCJ seeks to illuminate bias, suggest alternatives and embrace an inclusive and fair leadership. Moreover, ANZCCJ will endeavor to enhance women’s advancement through its internship program, through which it assists in mentoring and assisting young women by taking junior female colleagues to major events and meetings, as well as encouraging a dynamic, supportive and flexible working environment. Through appointing women to our board, we demonstrate our value in supporting women’s advancement, and providing mentors for the future. ANZCCJ pursues the celebration of female achievements through its consistent reinforcement of the success of women leaders in both the business world, but also across all social, economic, cultural and political spheres. In raising women’s visibility through the dissemination of their roles as media spokespeople, as well as their ability to be overall role models, we reinforce and support the triumphs of women. Finally, as a Chamber of Commerce, ANZCCJ is able to champion women's education through supporting female innovation of new products and services, as well as celebrating the discovery of new knowledge by female researchers.
ANZCCJ is celebrating International Women’s Day 2017 #BeBoldForChange as a way to declare the bold actions we currently undertake, and will continue to carry out in order to pursue purposeful action which can accelerate gender parity worldwide.
