Daniel Madaras / CEO in Kamiji Inc.

Being a big fan of the Japanese language, especially the strange and unique writing system, he and his co-founder started developing a Kanji learning game app called ‘Kamiji’. As they were in the fund-raising phase and wanted to be taken seriously, he felt the need to establish a company around the project. This is when they received service from TOSBEC and were able to establish a K.K. in Japan.

For those in the Food and Beverage industry, there is a shared pang of regret felt when faced with the decision to throw away large amounts of food that could be put to better use. According to the Japanese Ministry of Environment, the estimated total amount of food loss and waste generated in Japan in FY 2018 was 25.31 million tons, of which approx. 6 million tons was edible. Japan aims to reduce the amount of edible food loss and waste generation to 4.89 million by FY 2030, with a number of government initiatives in place to bring this issue to the public's attention.
The ANZCCJ Food, Agriculture & Hospitality Committee and GourmetPro invite members and friends to join us at Hilton Tokyo on Thursday 26 May as we explore the food waste challenges faced in Japan and the opportunities to overcome them. Featuring guest speakers Gourmet Pro, Don Roxburgh (Wholesum Japan), Alexander Fellner (Aranea), Frankie Hart (Harnet Corporation), and Martial Diffor (Hilton Tokyo Executive Chef), this event will provide insights on:
- The food waste situation in Japan and its root causes
- Challenges that importers, exporters and hospitality industry players face in terms of food waste, and examples of best practices to reduce it
- How startups are offering innovative solutions to reduce food waste and loss across the F&B industry in Japan
By participating in this event, attendees will not only get deep insight into the food waste problems facing Japan, but will also hear real experiences of F&B industry players tackling these issues.
